Imagine if you will, your grandchildren admiring this piece of classic Americana art they inherited from their parents who inherited it from you. The conversation might go something like this.
Can you imagine back in 2000 cars still ran on fosil fuels? People actually had to pull over and pay for a flammable liquid so they could get from point a to b.... Wars were fought over oil in the ground and people died for what lay beneath the surface of the ground where they were born. I have to say it must have been hard for them back then not having either fission engines or the freedom of the solar grid.
Perhaps this is fiction but technology certainly seems to have a limited life-cycle. While most of us can remember filling up with pumps like these they have outlived their usefulness even now. They sit in front of a deserted service station that is slowly being reclaimed by nature. The price shows about 25 cents a liter so they have been out of service at least as long as...

A little about me: I was raised a military brat and lived all around the US growing up. I went to Auburn University then joined the Air Force upon graduation. In the Air Force I flew B-1B bombers, T-37 and T-38 trainers, KC-135s and taught counter terrorism CQC defensive tactics for aircrews. I retired from the Air National Guard after 21 years of service. I was also an airline pilot for Midwest Airlines where I flew DC-9s, MD-80s and Boing 717s. All of Midwest's flight-crews were outsourced in 2008 and now I make my living selling art and various other jobs in the Dallas Fort Worth area.
