Description
I had spent the afternoon paying my respects to a fallen officer and parked my Jeep in my garage after the procession. It was 1800.
At 1842 the smoke detector started screaming. I could smell some smoke. Opened the house door to the garage and thick black smoke poured out. Closed the garage door. (Inside to garage door.)
1843: Told wife the garage is on fire, take both dogs to the back yard and call the fire department at 911.
Closed any open doors to all our rooms. Went out front and hooked up garden hose. Went to back yard checked on wife and dogs.
Garage door opens by itself. They fail to open if they are closed.
When it opened you could see the Jeep's engine bay engulfed in flames. I took fire extinguisher from back of Jeep, sprayed into right front wheel well where you could see flames there. No avail.
Removed camera gear and 45 rifle from back of Jeep which is NOT on fire yet and smoke was staying high. Put those items on lawn and attacked fire with garden hose. Molten burning stuff now dripping from engine bay.
Water does NO Good there so spray the ceiling of the garage to try and cool it and spray both vehicle gas tanks with water. I alternate between those things until first FD units arrive then I move out of their way. Relocate dogs and wife to safe locations.
Go back and inform guy that looks like the chief that ALL occupants are secure and safe.
Watch the first responder heroes do their thing.
Both my Jeep and my wife's Ford burned to the ground. The fire got into the attic and poured thick black smoke and soot throughout the house destroying or damaging every thing we own.
The next day as I was examining the damage I noticed this one sticker on the back of my Jeep had survived the fire. The reality is I am blessed that no one was hurt and that I live in the United States of America. I am blessed that heroes dressed in bunker gear came as fast as they did. I am blessed that heroes with guns and badges are also there when you need them. Regardless of what happened I have my family and in live in the USA and I am truly blessed.
