Description
When it comes to backroom poker holding a wildcard or two can be a serious advantage.
The other day someone asked if anyone carried a 22 only to get some pretty funny responses.
I would counter those with don’t be so fast to blow off 22s and their more powerful cousin the 22 magnums. If you don’t watch a lot of shows like the First 48 it might surprise you how many homicides are done with a 22. A well placed shot with a 22 LR can be every bit as deadly as the more common defensive rounds. The 9mm crowd is always talking about how shot placement is more critical than bullet size and energy. That is something I both believe to be true AND something that can be applied to the little 22.
For the record I carry a full size double stack 45 striker fired pistol 99% of the time when carrying but the little NAA Pug is usually along for the ride as well. The one advantage the Pug has over its larger cousin is its size and the ability to conceal it in almost anything including swim trunks.
While I would consider the gun virtually useless beyond ten feet inside five it is a serious choice. It is probably designed as more of a contact weapon and for that a 22 magnum will do the job very well indeed.
