Description
There have been many documentaries made on the USS Indianapolis,CL-35 and it is arguably the most famous cruiser of World War Two.
Her final mission was to carry to carry the world's first operational atomic bomb to the island of Tinian to be loaded on a B-29 heading for Japan. Because of the secrecy of the mission no one knew when she was sunk by a Japanese submarine and rescue was delayed for days.
Of the 900 crew members that had made it off the ship and into the water only 317 were rescued.
This image of the mighty Indianapolis on the Indy flag is a tribute to those patriots that lost their lives in the greatest tragedy in US Naval history.
