Description
I teach a snake class for first responders. Among the subjects of the class is snake identification. One of the most often confused snakes is the cottonmouth. Virtually any snake in the water seems to instantly be labeled a cottonmouth even if it is well outside of the venomous snakes range.
This northern water snake is often the culprit of the misidentification though the differences are quite obvious to the trained eye.
